On Friday the 2nd of October, Davie Phillips from Cultivate visited our Transition Year Sustainable Education class to talk to us about values and ethics. We began the class by discussing ideas about resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from shocks and difficult times in our lives.
Davie and our group discussed how we can “bounce back” from shocks in our personal life, our communities and on a global scale. In small groups we brainstormed 'Shocks' and 'Coping | Resilience' related to our food on post-it notes before making one group list as a class. One example of a shock would be a disease that affects crop harvests. One way of “bouncing back” from this would be to diversify the crops that we grow.
